Trade union Solidarity says that the placement process concerning 104 Telkom employees, who received retrenchment notices on 1 October, has been finalised.<\/p>\n
Of the said employees, 96, including 14 Solidarity members, have not been placed.<\/p>\n
In a letter to Solidarity, Telkom said trade unions may assist their members who have still not been placed to apply for alternative positions in the new, proposed structures depending on their skills and experience.<\/p>\n
These applications have to be submitted on or before 7 November.<\/p>\n
According to Solidarity’s Marius Croucamp, the union would assist its members to the best of its ability in the process of applying for alternative positions. He said that Solidarity aims to have further discussions during the coming month with Telkom on the placements.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to see to it that all our members are placed in alternative positions and if they are not placed because of inadequate qualifications or training, that Telkom gives them the opportunity to receive the necessary training,\u201d Croucamp said.<\/p>\n
In October, Solidarity said that more than 300 Telkom SA managers had left the company voluntarily in the landline provider\u2019s restructuring process,.<\/span><\/p>\n Telkom, it claimed, is slashing jobs from a management layer of 2,650 posts to make it more agile in an aggressively competitive environment.<\/p>\n MTN placements also finalised<\/strong><\/p>\n According to Croucamp, the placement process regarding MTN\u2019s retrenchment process has already been finalised.<\/p>\n The union had previously said that MTN notified Solidarity on August 22 of its intention to implement a restructuring process that would affect up to 847 managers.<\/p>\n \u201cMost of our members, who are affected by the retrenchments, have accepted voluntary retrenchment packages, while some members have been placed in alternative positions.<\/p>\n “Some of our members who have applied for alternative positions are, however, still in the thick of the interviewing process.
