BitCo has successfully completed its fibre ring around Gauteng, increasing redundancy and the ability to offer high-speed broadband services in the province, the company said in a press release on Wednesday, 5 November 2014.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are now able to offer 100Mbps+ links on fibre, enabling BitCo to compete in the ever changing telecommunications landscape,\u201d said Jarryd Chatz, business development director at BitCo.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy rolling out this ultra-high capacity network we are in-line with our trend of more than doubling our data traffic year-on-year, and creating a first-class, carrier grade, redundant network.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fibre ring expands around greater Johannesburg, reaching from Isando through the Johannesburg CBD to Midrand, Centurion, and everything in-between.<\/p>\n
Johannesburg is also not the only city BitCo is servicing. The company said that Durban North and Rondebosch are among locations it has chosen to increase its footprint.<\/p>\n
BitCo\u2019s Gauteng fibre ring is complemented by its existing microwave metro Ethernet network, which it said lets it rapidly connect businesses in South Africa\u2019s economic hub.<\/p>\n
\u201cWireless services can be installed as a temporary measure while the fibre is being arranged, the lead times for which can be as low as three weeks,\u201d BitCo said.<\/p>\n
