The combined monthly reported sales figures reveals which brand, and vehicle models, are the most popular in South Africa in 2014.<\/p>\n

According to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa), 59,384 cars were sold in October, up 4.7% from 56,608 sold the year before, though down 2.4% from the 60,819 cars sold in September.<\/p>\n

To date (October 2014), over 540,000 vehicles have been sold over the course of the year, with Toyota emerging as the most popular car brand for South Africans.<\/p>\n

According to data on monthly car sales figures up to September 2014, compiled and reported by Lightstone Auto<\/a>, Toyota is the biggest seller in the country, while the company’s Toyota Hilux has outsold any other car in the country.<\/p>\n

Since January, Toyota has sold almost 28,000 Hilux vehicles, with Volkswagen’s Polo Vivo and Polo following close behind with over 25,000 and 23,000 sold, respectively.<\/p>\n

Open back trucks (bakkies) account for half of the country’s top-selling vehicles falling into the utility category, including the Ford Ranger, Nissan NP200, Chevrolet Utility and the Isuzu KB.<\/p>\n

In the battle between Mercedes-Benz and BMW luxury sedans, the Mercedes C-Class has to date outsold the BMW 3-Series by almost 1,500 vehicles, but neither entered into the top 10.<\/p>\n

Notably, the Toyota Corolla, Toyota Auris and Toyoto Quest vehicle numbers are reported collectively. The grouping sold a total of 15,198 in the January – September period, the 5th biggest overall – but is not listed in the ranking individually.<\/p>\n
