{"id":736207,"date":"2023-12-15T14:30:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T12:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=736207"},"modified":"2023-12-14T16:40:22","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T14:40:22","slug":"90-of-south-africans-are-stressed-heres-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/736207\/90-of-south-africans-are-stressed-heres-why\/","title":{"rendered":"90% of South Africans are stressed out &#8211; here&#8217;s why"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>9 out of 10 South Africans are seriously worried about the future, with pressure on people and the planet at near highs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is according to Human8&#8217;s annual What Matters trend report, which notes that businesses need to take greater responsibility for some of the world&#8217;s problems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cost-of-living crisis continues to put pressure on cash-strapped consumers, whilst the impact of global warming is becoming more visible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;With an additional 82% of South Africans agreeing we need to move beyond \u2018sustaining\u2019 and into \u2018reversing\u2019 the damage done, the global agency advocates the shift towards \u2018regenerative<br>sustainability\u2019,&#8221; Human8 said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Where traditional sustainability focuses primarily on maintaining the current state of the environment, regenerative sustainability or \u2018regeneration\u2019 broadens the scope. It&#8217;s not only about the planet. And it\u2019s not only about doing less harm. It\u2019s about thinking in regenerative ways, restoring and reimagining everything, including how businesses are run to reshape human norms and ecological systems.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The four-part global study uses a mix of cultural and human insights methodologies, with inputs from 13,028 consumers across 17 markets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The global research showed that 91% of South Africans need to take responsibility for safeguarding the planet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Human8&#8217;s key findings on South Africa can be found below: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The time for action is now:<\/strong> 90% are worried about the state of our planet for the future<br>generations, 82% say that drastic changes are needed to our lifestyle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Consumers look to businesses for inspiration and vision to move them towards positive<br>change:<\/strong> 85% believe making the world a better place isn\u2019t something they can do on their<br>own. It requires people\/ organisations\/ businesses with a clear vision to take the lead and drive<br>change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Moving the needle on sustainability<\/strong>: Only 16% can confidently state they have a<br>sustainable lifestyle. Education (50%), availability (47%), and quality (37%) of sustainable<br>options would help consumers adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Businesses need to be more transparent about sustainability efforts<\/strong>: 91% say businesses need<br>to provide more information about sustainability efforts, with 57% saying that businesses that don\u2019t<br>communicate about sustainability isn\u2019t sustainable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Flip the script on diversity and inclusion<\/strong>: 49% state that fighting dominant norms and<br>labels used in society is draining and ineffective.
