Power utility Eskom has appointed Dan Marokane as its new CEO, confirming earlier reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He will take up the position on 31 March 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marokane returns to Eskom after he and three other senior executives were suspended following an ethical stand they took against state capture, fraud and corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has experience working in distressed organisations with visible and pressurised turnaround mandates, Eskom said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Mteto Nyati, Chairman of the Eskom Board, the appointment of Marokane follows a long, rigorous and meticulous recruitment process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The Eskom Board embarked on a global search for a suitable candidate with the necessary leadership, experience and business orientation with a solid track record in the energy sector,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are delighted to have him on board and are confident that he, the executive committee and the Board will work well together in rebuilding an Eskom of tomorrow that is anchored on high-performance culture,\u201d Nyati said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marokane replaces former CEO Andre de Ruyter, who resigned from the position a year ago following a loss of support from the government and board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
