There are 12 models that have come to their end, as brands announced their discontinuance in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023 was a notable year for bakkies, with the launch of exciting new models like the Ford Ranger Raptor, the second-generation VW Amarok, the Isuzu D-Max X-Rider, the flagship JAC T9 and GWM P-Series LTD, and limited-edition versions of the Mitsubishi Triton and Toyota Hilux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year has been a tough one for the automobile industry with the discontinuation of some of its popular models, including the  Ford EcoSport<\/a>, Suzuki Vitara Brezza<\/a>, and Toyota Urban Cruiser<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These models were among the best choices available in South Africa’s sub-R300,000 SUV market. The announcement of their imminent cancellation came as a shock to the motoring community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, all three automakers have since launched new vehicles that, in theory, compensate for the losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ford released the  Puma<\/a>, while Suzuki and Toyota launched the  Grand Vitara<\/a> and new Urban Cruiser<\/a>, respectively. It is worth noting that the latter may share the name of its predecessor but is built on an entirely different platform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among other carmakers, BAIC discontinued the X25, while Mahindra did the same with its KUV100 AND KUV500. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toyota removed the  FJ Cruiser<\/a> from its portfolio, and Nissan followed suit with the Almera, further reducing the number of affordable sedans in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hyundai has discontinued the Atos<\/a>, and now the Grand i10 has become its new entry-level car. Toyota also made a similar move by replacing the Agya with the Vitz, which is based on the new Suzuki Celerio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subaru has replaced the VX with the new Crosstrek this year, and Kia has confirmed that it will discontinue the production of the Rio hatch for right-hand-drive countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
