{"id":742897,"date":"2024-01-17T07:11:33","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T05:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=742897"},"modified":"2024-01-17T07:11:33","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T05:11:33","slug":"best-selling-smartphone-worldwide-for-2023-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/742897\/best-selling-smartphone-worldwide-for-2023-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"Best-selling smartphone worldwide for 2023 revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Apple\u2019s iPhone dethroned Samsung Electronics devices to become the best-selling smartphone series over the course of 2023, the first time South Korea\u2019s largest company has lost the top spot since 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The iPhone accounted for a fifth of the global market, with close to 235 million shipments last year, research firm IDC estimates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samsung, whose shipments slumped double-digits to 226.6 million, came in second, ahead of Chinese device makers like Xiaomi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/406436160.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/406436160-1024x419.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-742899\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/406436160-1024x419.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/406436160-300x123.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/406436160-768x314.jpg 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/406436160.jpg 1467w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While Apple has dominated the holiday quarter in recent years, its surge ahead of Samsung over a full year is unprecedented and suggests Apple is weathering an industrywide slump better than rivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple benefited from aggressive offers that have enticed a shift toward premium devices.
