{"id":7495,"date":"2012-03-08T12:43:15","date_gmt":"2012-03-08T12:43:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=7495"},"modified":"2012-03-08T12:45:15","modified_gmt":"2012-03-08T12:45:15","slug":"absa-hits-r1-trillion-in-online-transactions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/7495\/absa-hits-r1-trillion-in-online-transactions\/","title":{"rendered":"Absa hits R1 trillion in online transactions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/358422-Absa\" target=\"_blank\">Absa<\/a> announced today (8 March 2012) that it had reached a record trillion Rand mark in transaction values for its online banking service in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>This figure encompasses both individuals and small businesses that use Absa Online Banking.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 70 million online transactions that Absa processes every month, the most popular have proven to be in the following four groups:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Payments \u2013 bill payments, beneficiaries, once-off and CashSend payments.<\/li>\n<li>Statements \u2013 requesting of account statements.<\/li>\n<li>Notice of payments \u2013 sending recipients notices via SMS, email or fax.<\/li>\n<li>Inter-account transfers \u2013 moving money between one\u2019s own accounts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cDevelopments, such as the impact of new sources of international undersea connectivity, [and] increased competition in the internet service providers industry &#8211; which has resulted in lower data prices and the influx of affordable net-book and notebook computers &#8211; are expected to bring a whole new group of South African users online,\u201d said Absa\u2019s Head of retail markets, Arrie Rautenbach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is therefore not surprising to see a sharply-rising demand and market appetite for new online functionalities.
