A parliamentary inquiry into whether SABC chairwoman Ellen Tshabalala lied about her academic qualifications is set to resume on Wednesday, Parliament’s communications portfolio committee announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
“The committee began the inquiry last month on 14 October 2014 but resolved to postpone the meeting to 23 October following Ms Tshabalala’s request for more time to study the charges against her,” committee chairwoman Joyce Moloi-Moropa said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Tshabalala obtained an interim order on October 23 halting the inquiry.<\/p>\n
On November 12, Tshabalala lost her bid in the Western Cape High Court to halt the parliamentary inquiry.<\/p>\n
“The court ruling vindicates us because we always held a firm view that the committee is acting within its powers to institute the inquiry,” Moloi-Moropa said.<\/p>\n
Tshabalala is accused of stating on her CV that she had a BComm degree from the University of SA (Unisa) and a post-graduate degree in labour relations. Unisa has since stated that, according to its records, she has neither of these qualifications.<\/p>\n
