{"id":751406,"date":"2024-02-14T17:07:51","date_gmt":"2024-02-14T15:07:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=751406"},"modified":"2024-02-14T17:08:25","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T15:08:25","slug":"how-much-it-costs-to-drive-to-durban-cape-town-and-the-kruger-park-after-the-latest-toll-fee-hike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/751406\/how-much-it-costs-to-drive-to-durban-cape-town-and-the-kruger-park-after-the-latest-toll-fee-hike\/","title":{"rendered":"How much it costs to drive to Durban, Cape Town and the Kruger Park after the latest toll fee hike"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>South Africans planning to travel domestically can expect to pay more for transport costs compared to last year as they grapple with high petrol prices and increased toll costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motorists still pay well over R20 per litre for petrol in South Africa, despite the reprieve in December and January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 7 February, petrol prices will be hiked by 75 cents per litre, and diesel prices went up by 70 to 73 cents a litre \u2013 taking the inland price of petrol 95 to R23.24 and 0.005% diesel to R21.43.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kicking motorists while they\u2019re down is increasing toll fees, which the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral)&nbsp;updated this month that will kick in from 1 March 2024  \u2013 hiking tolls by 6.25%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-businesstech wp-block-embed-businesstech\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"JTANebAXSC\"><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/750812\/toll-fee-hikes-in-south-africa-how-much-more-you-will-pay-from-next-month\/\">Toll fee hikes in South Africa &#8211; how much more you will pay from next month<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Toll fee hikes in South Africa &#8211; how much more you will pay from next month&#8221; &#8212; BusinessTech\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/750812\/toll-fee-hikes-in-south-africa-how-much-more-you-will-pay-from-next-month\/embed\/#?secret=2aMOKkWoEI#?secret=JTANebAXSC\" data-secret=\"JTANebAXSC\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>How much it costs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BusinessTech has calculated the costs of travelling to South Africa&#8217;s most popular holiday destinations using the country&#8217;s top-selling cars in five categories including bakkie, SUV, hatchback, sedan, and crossover. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The calculation takes into account the cost of petrol and the expected toll fee increases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Africa\u2019s best-selling cars in the selected categories were selected from the latest new vehicle sales report provided by Naamsa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We then calculated how much fuel each of these cars consumes based on the manufacturer\u2019s provided average fuel consumption per\/100km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In each case, the manufacturer\u2019s least expensive model \u2013 and for bakkies, the cheapest double cab \u2013 was considered. 95 octane (R23.24) and 0.005% diesel prices (R21.43) as of February 2024 were used for comparison purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We then calculated the fuel costs when travelling to some of South Africa\u2019s most popular destinations, using the City of Johannesburg\/Tshwane as a benchmark. These costs were then added to the latest toll costs as of 1 March 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Toyota Hilux 2.4GD-6 double
