{"id":75164,"date":"2014-12-11T23:57:37","date_gmt":"2014-12-11T21:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=75164"},"modified":"2014-12-12T00:26:37","modified_gmt":"2014-12-11T22:26:37","slug":"telkom-targets-fibre-to-the-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/75164\/telkom-targets-fibre-to-the-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Telkom targets fibre-to-the-business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telkom says that while it has started rolling out fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) in select suburbs,\u00a0fibre-to-the-business (FTTB) will be next.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the month, Telkom announced the commercial availability of its 20Mbps, 40Mbps and 100Mbps Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service in selected areas in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom&#8217;s FTTB coverage map coincides with its coverage area for FTTH and is available <a title=\"http:\/\/www.telkom.co.za\/coverage\/index.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.telkom.co.za\/coverage\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Customers in these areas can opt for Telkom\u2019s promotional fibre 24 month offers including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>20Mbps line with 50GB data package for<strong> R999 per month<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>40Mbps line with 100GB package at <strong>R1,299 per month<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>100MBps line with 200 GB of data for <strong>R1,799 per month<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cTelkom\u2019s current FTTB strategy is based on two pillars: Metro LAN (Metro-ethernet based product) for large sites, and the same Broadband-based product as the FTTH offer for small businesses. We have been deploying Metro LAN for more than two years already and there is now a rapid acceleration in uptake and deployment,&#8221; Telkom said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For voice services over fibre we offer SIP trunking over Metro LAN. Next year Telkom will launch similar services over the broadband-based FTTB.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Telkom also noted that it has 3,000 hotspots across the country, with a coverage map <a title=\"http:\/\/www.telkommobile.co.za\/wifi\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.telkommobile.co.za\/wifi\/\" target=\"_blank\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In September, Vodacom Business <a title=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/68742\/vodacom-fibre-to-the-business-pricing-revealed\/\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/68742\/vodacom-fibre-to-the-business-pricing-revealed\/\" target=\"_blank\">announced the launch<\/a> of its FTTB services in South Africa, including prices.<\/p>\n<p>The group said connectivity would be up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) in selected business parks in Gauteng, Cape Town, and Durban.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vodacom<\/strong> has stated that, while it has a FTTH strategy, the group\u2019s first focus would be FTTB, which it would then expand to homes. A big part of Vodacom\u2019s fibre strategy also rests on the success of its acquisition of Neotel going through.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MTN<\/strong> meanwhile, is <a title=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/70789\/mtn-in-aggressive-fibre-push\/\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/70789\/mtn-in-aggressive-fibre-push\/\" target=\"_blank\">offering<\/a> speeds between 20Mbps and 100Mbps, and data packages ranging from 10GB to 500GB per month.
