ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa has been given the mandate to ask SABC chairwoman Ellen Tshabalala to step down to avoid further embarrassing the party, the City Press reported, citing sources.<\/p>\n
Tshabalala is currently under severe scrutiny, following a parliamentary inquest into whether she lied about having qualifications or not.<\/p>\n
She stated on her CV that she had obtained the two qualifications from the University of South Africa (Unisa) when she applied for the job as SABC chairwoman, however the university has no record of her completing either one.<\/p>\n
The chairwoman maintains that she has the qualification, but will only provide them in court.<\/p>\n
According to the City Press report, three sources have indicated that the ANC is not happy with the situation, and that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has been tasked with setting up a meeting with Tshabalala to ask her to step down.<\/p>\n
However, the meeting has not yet happened, with sources giving mixed reasons – including that Tshabalalala did not pitch to a meeting that had been set up, and that Ramaphonsa has since left the country.<\/p>\n
The Portfolio Committee on Communications has also resolved to recommend that Tshabalala be removed from her position at the SABC.<\/p>\n
