The division\u2019s lower sales volumes mirror the nearly 5.0% contraction in South Africa\u2019s new vehicle dealer market.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McCarthy\u2019s car mix is also skewed to traditional makes, with many of which are losing share to<br>new entrants into the market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/748614\/chinese-car-makers-bet-big-on-south-africa-and-won-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Naamsa&#8217;s data<\/a> showed that the Haval sold roughly 19,904 units in 2023 &#8211; an increase of over 2,000% from 2019.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, sales for Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW have more than halved in the last decade \u2013 with total sales declining from 71,889 in 2014 to 26,202 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-businesstech wp-block-embed-businesstech\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"Jw1faa4ZBX\"><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/757037\/big-trouble-for-bmw-merc-and-other-premium-cars-in-south-africa-2\/\">Big trouble for BMW, Merc and other premium cars in South Africa<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Big trouble for BMW, Merc and other premium cars in South Africa&#8221; &#8212; BusinessTech\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/757037\/big-trouble-for-bmw-merc-and-other-premium-cars-in-south-africa-2\/embed\/#?secret=AAMn1EjW6H#?secret=Jw1faa4ZBX\" data-secret=\"Jw1faa4ZBX\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With this in mind, Bidvest said it is making progress in broadening its exposure to select new brands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The older segment of the used car market gained traction through the award of new dealer representation and the launch of WeBuyCars competitor Cubbi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Diversification remains critical to reduce cyclicality, and bolt-on acquisitions are being pursued. There is an emphasis on expense control and inventory management.
