average salaries over the last three months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe average <strong>nominal take-home pay reached R16,085<\/strong>, which was 4.6% growth on a year-ago and also 2.5% up on January\u2019s R15,692,\u201d said Shergeran Naidoo, BankservAfrica\u2019s Head of Stakeholder Engagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn <strong>real-terms, the monthly take-home pay tracked higher at R14,354 <\/strong>in February 2024, slightly below year-on-year levels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-69.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"664\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-69.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-762045\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-69.png 664w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-69-300x166.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 664px) 100vw, 664px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s business environment is expected to improve following two years characterised by persistent economic challenges, which significantly impacted companies and their ability to pay inflation-related increases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile it is still early days, the BankservAfrica data signals 2024 could be a better year for salaries,\u201d said Elize Kruger, Independent Economist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although mediocre economic growth is forecast for 2024, it should still be better than 0.6% in 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this growth depends on reduced inflation, moderate inflation, and interest rate cuts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-businesstech wp-block-embed-businesstech\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"0IoOwUAG37\"><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/761957\/inflation-blow-for-south-africa-bad-news-for-interest-rates\/\">Inflation blow for South Africa &#8211; bad news for interest rates&#8221; &#8212; BusinessTech\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/761957\/inflation-blow-for-south-africa-bad-news-for-interest-rates\/embed\/#?secret=uPaTUP7jow#?secret=0IoOwUAG37\" data-secret=\"0IoOwUAG37\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The average nominal BTPI for the three months to February 2024 showed a 6.4% y-o-y increase, broadly in line with the South African Reserve Bank\u2019s forecast of an average salary increase of 6.1% for 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although CPI ticked up from 5.3% in January to 5.6% in February, the full-year average for 2024 is expected to be around 5.3% &#8211;
