This means that the province had the highest inter-provincial net increase in the country, totalling 183,388.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>395,977 people left Gauteng for other provinces, while 512,488 came from other provinces (+116,511).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The provinces which had more people leave for other provinces than come in are Limpopo (-114,328), KwaZulu-Natal (-57,411), Free State (-24,585), and Mpumalanga (-24,569).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Migration into SA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"position: relative; width: 100%; height: 0; padding-top: 66.6667%;\n padding-bottom: 0; box-shadow: 0 2px 8px 0 rgba(63,69,81,0.16); margin-top: 1.6em; margin-bottom: 0.9em; overflow: hidden;\n border-radius: 8px; will-change: transform;\">\n  <iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; top: 0; left: 0; border: none; padding: 0;margin: 0;\"\n    src=\"https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.canva.com&#x2F;design&#x2F;DAGCANIw6_M&#x2F;itQe4TnIU3ABVVQR3OatmA&#x2F;view?embed\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" allow=\"fullscreen\">\n  <\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<a href=\"https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.canva.com&#x2F;design&#x2F;DAGCANIw6_M&#x2F;itQe4TnIU3ABVVQR3OatmA&#x2F;view?utm_content=DAGCANIw6_M&amp;utm_campaign=designshare&amp;utm_medium=embeds&amp;utm_source=link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Design<\/a> by Seth Thorne\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, looking at immigration, Gauteng boasts the lion&#8217;s share of the influx &#8211; <strong>over 172,000 more than second-place Western Cape.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Overall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the report, in total (both inter-provincial and outside SA), the provinces saw a net migration of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gauteng (+ 399,353);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Western Cape (+ 294,029);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>North West (+ 47,275);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mpumalanga (+ 12,650);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Northern Cape (+ 12,094);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free State (- 9,878);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>KwaZulu-Natal (- 10,067);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eastern Cape (- 62,629);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and Limpopo (- 63,917).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at the percentage distribution of period in-migration, the results indicate that Gauteng and the Western Cape are the two main provinces that attract a high number of in-migrants (34.4% and 19.8%, respectively).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Northern Cape is the province with the lowest share of period migrants (2,6%). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eastern Cape, on the other hand, shows an increase of 5 percentage points between Census 2011 (5,3%) and Census 2022 (10,3%)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-22.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1022\" height=\"751\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-22.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-767404\" style=\"width:666px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-22.png 1022w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-22-300x220.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/image-22-768x564.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1022px) 100vw, 1022px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">In-migration percentage distribution.
