South Africa’s vehicle market is set to become even more competitive, as 21 Chinese cars will make their debut in the country before the end of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent months, several new brands, such as GAC Motors, Foton, and LDV, have announced their plans to enter the market. LDV has already launched its first vehicle, the T60 bakkie, and is set to introduce an SUV, MPV, and panel van in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foton is planning to re-enter the South African market in June with its own double cab, the Tunland G7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company will also launch several light and medium commercial vehicles that are aimed at the business sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another newcomer, GAC Motors, is introducing three new SUVs \u2013 two of which run on petrol and the third on battery electricity (BEV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, BYD is planning to launch its second car in South Africa in the near future, which will be called the Dolphin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This electric hatchback is poised to become the country\u2019s cheapest BEV with a projected starting price of R550,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chery is all set to launch new plug-in hybrid models of its popular Tiggo 7 Pro and 8 Pro SUVs, making them more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to this, Chery’s sub-brands Jaecoo and Omoda are also introducing new models to the market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaecoo will introduce two new models, the J7 PHEV and the luxurious J8, which are expected to be packed with premium features and advanced technologies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the J6, an electric SUV, has been rebranded from Chery’s “iCar” division and will also be part of the launch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, Omoda fans can look forward to the flagship C9, which has been pulled from Chery’s Exeed brand, and the E5, an electric version of the C5 that is already on sale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These new models are expected to set new benchmarks in terms of performance, efficiency, and sustainability, and will provide customers with a wide range of options to choose from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GWM is expanding its line-up by introducing the P500 bakkie and the Tank 500 SUV model. Meanwhile, Haval is launching two new vehicles – the Jolion Pro and H7. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, JAC’s T9 double cab, which was previously only available with a turbocharged diesel engine, is expected to receive two new powertrains – a PHEV and BEV option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All these Chinese cars are expected to arrive in South Africa before the end of this year, although some models may experience delays at short notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
