Photo: Fokke Baarssen<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>According to Rough Guides, what voters love the most about South Africa is &#8220;the diversity, culture, landscape, wine, people and food.\u201d<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surprisingly, South Africa was the only African country to make the top 20 (although\u00a0Namibia\u00a0received a fair few nominations).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;South Africa\u00a0is undeniably stunning,&#8221; said travel writer Joanne Owen, adding that &#8220;many of [the voters] praised the country\u2019s &#8216;sheer diversity of scenery&#8217;, and its &#8216;raw natural landscape, roads and ocean.'&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the iconic Table Mountain in Cape Town to the expansive savannahs of the Kruger National Park, South Africa boasts diverse and breathtaking landscapes that include mountains, beaches, forests, and deserts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>9. Photo: Sven Hansche<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In the words of one passionate respondent\u00a0&#8220;the\u00a0islands\u00a0are truly special &#8211; the white buildings, blue domes, traditional villages,\u00a0beautiful\u00a0Greek beaches, and the high cliffs looking down on the incredibly blue Mediterranean Sea,&#8221; describe Greece&#8217;s beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other respondents mentioned the\u00a0&#8220;wonderful locally-produced food\u201d, and the fact that it boasts one of the richest\u00a0collections of historic monuments in the world as other reasons for their vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8. Its landscapes, from mountains to waterfalls, are breathtakingly pristine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Troms\u00f8, a cultural hub within the Arctic Circle, is ideal for northern lights tours in winter and basks in the midnight sun&#8217;s glow in summer. Additionally, the warmth and cultural richness of Norwegians add to the country&#8217;s charm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6. The hidden secrets of\u00a0Suffolk,\u00a0the tiny\u00a0hamlets of\u00a0Devon and hidden beaches of Cornwall. The pretty\u00a0Isles of Scilly, and the Jurassic coastline of\u00a0Dorset,\u201d\u00a0said the reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Photo: Vety Maria<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The largest\u00a0country in the EU,\u00a0France\u00a0is also one of the most varied &#8211; a country you frequently acclaimed for its\u00a0&#8216;amazing landscapes&#8217;,&#8221; said Owen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rough Guide said that France boasts enchanting landscapes, from the snow-capped French Alps and lush Pyrenees to Provence&#8217;s vibrant lavender fields and the golden chateaux, not to mention the pristine beaches and exquisite cuisine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rising four spots in the Rough Guide&#8217;s poll, France&#8217;s &#8220;allure remains as powerful as ever, with plenty of secrets to be explored,&#8221; said the group. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Alternatively, people might enjoy the views more comfortably from a charming mountain train, adding that Zermatt and the Matterhorn as must-visit destinations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many praised Switzerland for its towns and immaculate cities, including Lausanne, Vevey, and Montreux by the lake, affluent Geneva, and the cosmopolitan city of Zurich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.
