{"id":774623,"date":"2024-06-01T15:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-01T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=774623"},"modified":"2024-05-31T15:33:17","modified_gmt":"2024-05-31T13:33:17","slug":"this-south-african-city-has-been-voted-as-one-of-the-worlds-best-for-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/774623\/this-south-african-city-has-been-voted-as-one-of-the-worlds-best-for-food\/","title":{"rendered":"This South African city has been voted as one of the world&#8217;s best for food"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Johannesburg has been voted as the world&#8217;s second best city for food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is according to a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/travel\/worlds-best-cities-for-food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Time Out ranking<\/a> which looked to rank cities which sport good quality meals\u00a0at reasonable prices.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Time Out surveyed thousands of locals about eating out in their cities to rank the world\u2019s culinary capitals in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ranking focused on quality, affordability, and top recommendations. Photo: elvirkins (Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;You can\u2019t talk food in Italy without talking\u00a0Naples\u00a0\u2013 and you can\u2019t talk food in Naples without talking pizza,&#8221; said Time Out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pizza originated in Naples during the 19th century as a speedy and inexpensive meal option for the working-class population. Photo: Sunshine Seeds (Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Cape Town might steal the limelight for its international cuisine, but Jo\u2019burg is a worthy rival for the title of South Africa\u2019s food capital,&#8221; said Time Out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Time Out highlighted that Johannesburg offers a diverse culinary experience, ranging from Ethiopian cafes in Little Addis to Nigerian and West African restaurants in the south of the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the majority of locals recommended indulging in the city&#8217;s traditional South African specialties, such as the Sowetan kota sandwich, bunny chow, and mala mogodu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If Jo\u2019burg is the soul of South Africa, Braamfontein is the pulse of the city,&#8221; said Johannesburg food writer Thando Moleketi-Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This central neighbourhood is home to some of my favourite places to eat, people-watch and dance, with some of the most innovative ventures combining the forces of food and culture,&#8221; added Moleketi-Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>3 &#8211; Lima, Peru<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Must-east dish:\u00a0<\/strong>Ceviche\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Peru-food.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Peru-food.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-774641\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Peru-food.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Peru-food-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Peru-food-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Peruvian seafood and fish sebiche with maize.
