{"id":774639,"date":"2024-05-31T10:40:42","date_gmt":"2024-05-31T08:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=774639"},"modified":"2024-05-31T10:40:48","modified_gmt":"2024-05-31T08:40:48","slug":"new-international-flight-planned-for-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/774639\/new-international-flight-planned-for-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"New international flight planned for South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Qantas and Perth Airport are working on a massive commercial agreement, with the airline planning to launch a flight between Perth and Johannesburg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of a new 12-year agreement, Perth Airport plans to invest roughly AU$3 billion (R37 billion) in new terminal facilities and a new parallel runway.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This forms part of Perth Airport&#8217;s AU$5 billion (R62 billion) capital investment program, which will deliver two multi-storey car parks, major access roadworks, and the airport\u2019s first hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terminal 3 and 4 upgrades will also allow Qantas to add services and more destinations from Perth, including Auckland and Johannesburg, subject to meeting border agency requirements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qantas currently offers direct flights between Johannesburg and Sydney. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The potential move could be a significant blow for South African Airways (SAA), which relaunched its flights between Johannesburg and Perth in April of this year as part of its planned revival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-businesstech wp-block-embed-businesstech\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"GJeDkWgBc9\"><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/768802\/saa-is-looking-for-investors-and-loans\/\">SAA is looking for investors and loans<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
