Discovery says that a “data breach” making the rounds on Twitter\/X is an isolated incident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to TimesLive<\/a>, 20 Discovery Insure clients’ personal information was compromised. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sygnia CEO Magda Wierzycka was one of the affected customers who complained about the data breach on Twitter\/X. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the email Wierzycka received, Discovery said that an impersonator called their call centre requesting personal information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A detailed investigation revealed that the impersonator most likely obtained personal information from historical 3rd party data breaches, including credit bureaus (2020), messaging platforms (2024) and other data scraping techniques.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This allowed the impersonator to bypass the Discovery identification and verification screening. It reported the matter to the Insurance Crime Bureau, SABRIC, and appointed forensic specialists to continue the investigation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fraudster obtained the customers’ names and surnames, residential addresses, identity numbers, cellphone numbers, email addresses and details of items covered by the policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite Wierzycka stating that she would cancel her policies with Discovery, the group told BusinessTech this was an isolated case.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It added that the impersonator already has access to much of this information, which allowed them to get past the identification and verification screening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
