Social media giant Facebook<\/a> is seeking a regional measurement lead, a position its says will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa.<\/p>\n

The group advertised the position on its careers portal and on LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Facebook is the country’s most popular social network, with 11.8 million users, according to the World Wide Worx and Fuseware SA Social Media Landscape 2015 report.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the group said it could not comment further on the appointment or whether Facebook intended to set up offices in Johannesburg, adding to more than fifty offices around the globe.<\/p>\n

However, the advert said that the candidate would partner with a regional sales team.<\/p>\n

“Facebook is seeking a highly quantitative, driven, and creative measurement lead to work within our Marketing Science Regional Measurement team to support its advertising business in South Africa and wider African market.<\/p>\n

“The EMEA Regional Measurement team is charged with demonstrating the ROI \/Value of the platform, develop best practices and inform product development.<\/p>\n

“Facebook has the opportunity to reshape advertising and this role will play a central role in determining how successful we can be within emerging markets within the African market.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This position is full time and located in Johannesburg, South Africa, Facebook said.<\/p>\n

It aims to add nearly 1,200 new employees, the outgrowth of aggressive investments that executives have said will define the coming year, Reuters reported on Sunday. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are an ambitious company run by an ambitious CEO,\u201d Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg told Reuters in an interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur users are growing and our business is growing and we want to support that,\u201d she said, noting that Facebook\u2019s business is much more expansive today than a few years ago, with offices throughout the world.<\/p>\n

Facebook’s growth spurt comes as the company expands into new markets and faces stiffening competition from Web rivals Google, Alibaba Group Holding and Snapchat.<\/p>\n

Facebook had 8,348 full-time employees at the end of September, fewer than Google\u2019s approximate 55,000 employees or Microsoft’s roughly 127,000.<\/p>\n
