{"id":778357,"date":"2024-06-23T15:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-23T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=778357"},"modified":"2024-06-21T16:59:28","modified_gmt":"2024-06-21T14:59:28","slug":"best-selling-bakkies-in-south-africa-in-2024-so-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/778357\/best-selling-bakkies-in-south-africa-in-2024-so-far\/","title":{"rendered":"Best-selling bakkies in South Africa in 2024 so far"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Bakkies have become a common sight on South African roads and fan-favourites like Toyota, Ford, and Isuzu remain on top. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bakkies are known for their toughness and durability, making them perfect for the country\u2019s diverse landscapes and challenging terrains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bakkies can easily handle the demanding conditions of both urban and rural areas, making them a versatile choice for many drivers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, bakkies offer a level of versatility that no other vehicle can match. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you need to transport goods, accommodate passengers, or embark on adventurous off-road escapades, bakkies can accommodate your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Toyota Hilux showed that its local customer base remained strong despite economic uncertainty, as it experienced increased sales during the month of the national elections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The popular bakkie sold 2,367 units in May, up 273 units from the 2,094 units sold in April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following closely was the Ford Ranger, which secured 2,216 new customers in May, maintaining its consistent position as South Africa&#8217;s second most popular double-cab option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These two models were the only ones to achieve more than 2,000 purchases, with the rest of the sales significantly lower in comparison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Isuzu D-Max secured the third spot with 1,282 purchases, showing an improvement from the prior month. Mahindra&#8217;s sales declined slightly, but its Pik Up series maintained its position in fourth place, with 716 units sold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest surprise was the performance of the Toyota Land Cruiser 79, which usually ranks around ninth place, and climbed to fifth place with 459 sales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nissan Navara followed closely with 423 registrations, and the VW Amarok took the seventh position with 325 sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surprisingly, the Nissan NP200 is also still in the top 10, securing the eighth position with 297 units sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being discontinued in April, the company produced additional stock to meet market demand for a few more months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The model&#8217;s continued popularity is evident from its strong sales performance.
