Vodacom will roll out\u00a0out a fibre network in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, and Durban to offer mobile, voice, video, and data services to about 150,000 homes and 100,000 business within the next three years.<\/p>\n
Alcatel-Lucent announced on 26 January 2015 that it had been selected to build a gigabit passive optical networking (GPON) solution for Vodacom.<\/p>\n
Alcatel-Lucent said that it is providing its 7360 ISAM FX for GPON services, as well as Customer Experience Management Platform using Motive Home Device Manager and Network Analyzer Fiber.<\/p>\n
The project also includes Professional Services, Operations Support Systems deployment, and Managed Services, Alcatel-Lucent said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe first began talking with Alcatel-Lucent about expanding Vodacom\u2019s business into the fixed access market five years ago,\u201d said Vodacom group chief technology officer Andries Delport.<\/p>\n
Willem Hendrickx, president of Alcatel-Lucent for Europe, Middle East, and Africa said that this was a significant and bold move from Vodacom.<\/p>\n
