Eskom says it will enter stage one load shedding from 10h00 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

This will be so that the power utility can “manage dam levels, so there is adequate water to prevent worse stages,” it said.<\/p>\n

According to a system status bulletin issued late on Monday, electricity demand is expected to outstrip supply for the remainder of the working week.<\/p>\n

Eskom implemented stage 1 load shedding on Monday, escalating the status to stage 2 after a third of its capacity was wiped off the grid.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, additional technical problems experienced at power plants led to stage 2 load shedding until 22h00.<\/p>\n

Stage one allows for up to 1000MW of the national load to be cut, stage two for up to 2000MW, and stage three for up to 4000MW.<\/p>\n

Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona said in an operational update this month, that the country\u2019s power supply would remain severely constrained in the coming months while it dealt with its maintenance backlog.<\/p>\n

In February 900 megawatts is to be taken off the grid when one of Koeberg nuclear power station\u2019s units undergoes maintenance.<\/p>\n

Matona has said that Eskom will need 5,000 MW in order to address its maintenance backlog.<\/p>\n
