href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/industrynews\/545941-new-research-shows-south-africans-want-to-spend-less-money-on-heating-their-geyser.html?utm_source=BusinessTech&amp;utm_medium=Sponsored+Article&amp;utm_term=August+2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LookSee Home Efficiency survey<\/a><\/strong>, in which nearly half of respondents said they are actively trying to reduce their geyser heating costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Geyser heating comprises 40%-50% of the average home\u2019s electricity bill, presenting a huge cost-saving opportunity for households which regularly take hot showers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey also found that 92.6% of respondents believe South Africa has major water issues and are concerned about water shortages in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is therefore clear that South Africans want to cut their electricity spend on heating their geyser and reduce their water consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several ways to achieve this without of showerheads are commonly used in South Africa, and each consumes varying amounts of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Low-flow showerhead<\/strong> \u2013 8 litres per minute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Typical showerhead<\/strong> \u2013 12 litres per minute.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High-flow showerhead<\/strong> \u2013 16 litres per minute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically, people avoided low-flow or water-saving showerheads because they offered an inferior showering experience and looked unattractive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, times have changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Low-flow showerheads now use less water without giving an inferior user experience and look just as attractive as normal showerheads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Switching from a high-flow showerhead to a low-flow showerhead can therefore reduce your water consumption without affecting your lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will also reduce your water heating costs, as you use far less hot water from your geyser for each shower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shower duration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An important step to take is reducing your showers from 15 minutes to 5 minutes \u2013 as this means you only use a third of the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LookSee\u2019s research shows that changing your showerhead and shortening your showers can slash your per-person shower
