Eskom has announced that it will move to stage two load shedding from 14h00 on Wednesday (4 February), as\u00a0a result of power station units not returning to service as planned.<\/p>\n
Eskom announced earlier on Wednesday that it planned to implement load shedding to 10pm as the group\u2019s systems remain under pressure.<\/p>\n
The power utility had previously noted that the power grid would remain under pressure the entire week as a unit of its Koeberg power station had to be taken offline due to a technical fault.<\/p>\n
The unit, which supplies 900MW of power, was scheduled to be taken down for maintenance next week.<\/p>\n
Several other units were offline on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt Majuba power station, Unit 3 has an ash conveyer belt which is stuck and at Duvha, Unit 2 tripped last night due to a technical fault on the electrical side that is currently being repaired,\u201d the power utility said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Stage one load shedding allows for up to 1000MW of the national load to be cut, stage two for up to 2000MW, and stage three for up to 4000MW.<\/p>\n
