Sony Pictures co-chairwoman Amy Pascal, whose embarrassing emails were leaked during a massive hack attack blamed on North Korea, said Thursday that she will step down.<\/p>\n
Pascal, 57, will now head a Sony-financed production venture, according to The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n
“I have spent almost my entire professional life at Sony Pictures, and I am energized to be starting this new chapter,” she said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Pascal’s departure had been widely anticipated after her email exchanges – bashing Hollywood stars including Angelina Jolie and making racially-tinged remarks about US President Barack Obama – were made public in December.<\/p>\n
The emails were the embarrassing tip of an iceberg of data stolen by hackers calling themselves the Guardians of Peace, who seized terabytes of sensitive corporate information, personal emails, unreleased films and information about 47,000 Sony employees, making demands in vain that the studio quash its North Korea spoof film The Interview.<\/p>\n
