Power utility Eskom has appointed four new executives to aid in the group’s turnaround strategy and new initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eskom Group CEO Dan Marokane said the appointments are the first four of seven new executives at the company, who will “further address the current business challenges and future-proof the organization”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEskom recognized that it needed to bring in some new skills at the executive level to guide its teams in the business so it can execute strategic initiatives in a competitive market faster, more efficiently, and in areas new to the utility,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The appointments effective from 1 November 2024 are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Group Executive: Corporate Services \u2013 Ms Portia Mngomezulu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Mngomezulu is a corporate services executive with over 28 years of experience, including more than a decade in senior leadership roles within the public sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n She will focus on streamlining controls and capacitating the unbundled Eskom entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Group Executive: Strategy and Sustainability \u2013 Ms Nontokozo Hadebe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Hadebe is a strategy executive with 23 years of experience in strategy development, corporate planning, performance management, and strategic initiatives management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Her expertise lies in long-term organizational strategy development and implementation plans, Eskom said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hadebe will focus on adapting Eskom’s strategy and aligning its research and development focus to solve current and future sustainability challenges and options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Group Executive: Group Capital \u2013 Mr Roman Crookes <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Crookes brings over 23 years of experience in the power industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Most recently, he successfully completed the construction and commissioning of the GNPD Power Plant, comprising two critical 725MW units, in the Philippines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Prior to this, he served as Project Director of the Medupi Power Plant Project, where he oversaw the overall project management up to the first unit being online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Crookes will refocus the business on driving efficiency in capital projects execution and capacitating the unbundled entities appropriately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chief Information and Technology Officer \u2013 Mr Len de Villiers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n De Villiers is appointed on a three-year contract. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Eskom said he has over 40 years of experience in the information technology industry and is considered one of the top chief information officers in South Africa. He has previously worked in CIO positions at Nedbank, Absa, Transaction Capital and Telkom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “He has extensive experience in the financial services industry and complex technology change projects and is expected to assist our business in embracing the pace of digitalization, the use of artificial intelligence, and increased levels in areas of cybersecurity,” the group said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eskom said the new executives will focus on delivering on the group’s strategic initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
