{"id":796386,"date":"2024-10-21T11:59:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-21T09:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=796386"},"modified":"2024-10-21T12:06:19","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T10:06:19","slug":"tipping-point-for-sasol-petrol-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/796386\/tipping-point-for-sasol-petrol-stations\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Tipping point&#8217; for Sasol petrol stations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sasol is rolling out a new way to tip petrol attendants at its fuel stations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sasol said that Tipped, a digital tipping system, will make it easier and more convenient for customers to tip petrol attendants straight from their smartphones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tipped is a digital tipping and payment system that uses a QR code and a digital wallet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Customers scan a QR code their attendant presents to pay a tip straight to their digital wallet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system runs on the Masterpass payment rail, which supports mobile banking apps from major banks and digital wallets such as SnapScan, Zapper, Spot, Telkom Pay, and VodaPay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The forecourt staff will join Tipped through a simple onboarding process that requires only proof of identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the attendants have the app, they can transact, transfer money to their accounts and use cashback rewards at affiliated stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPartnering with Tipped aligns with our strategy at a time when our customers are embracing digital payments,&#8221; said Zanele Hadebe, Vice-President Strategic Marketing for\u00a0Sasol\u00a0Energy Marketing &amp; Sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are pleased to support an innovative, local female-owned technology startup following successful pilots of the solution at selected sites.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cReceiving digital tips helps safeguard attendants from cash crime risks and gives them control over their money. It also enables us to evolve towards a cashless environment, which reduces costs and security risks at our forecourts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tipped CEO Kimlynn Temple added that the company is excited to partner with a significant fuel brand like Sasol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Sasol\u2019s support as our exclusive fuel station partner for the next year is a significant milestone in scaling our business,&#8221; said Temple. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTipped receivers, on average, increase gratuities by almost 40%.
