{"id":798664,"date":"2024-11-06T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-06T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=798664"},"modified":"2024-11-06T09:43:15","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T07:43:15","slug":"these-are-the-most-in-demand-jobs-in-south-africa-right-now-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/798664\/these-are-the-most-in-demand-jobs-in-south-africa-right-now-5\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the most in-demand jobs in South Africa right now"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Jobs in architecture and engineering are the most in demand in South Africa despite an evident slowdown in recruitment activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is according to the October 2024 Pnet Job Market Trends Report, which provides monthly insights into the South African recruitment and employment landscape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report offers data on hiring activity, trending job roles and sectors, and salary trends across various professions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, Pnet said that recruitment has been steadily slowing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Month-on-month local hiring activity was down by -5% from August to September 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year-on-year, hiring activity decreased by -6%, compared to September 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trend for the two-year comparison paints a bleak picture for job-seekers, showing that recruitment activity has decreased by -17% compared to September 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"948\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-798669\" style=\"width:666px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-9.png 948w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-9-300x215.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-9-768x551.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 948px) 100vw, 948px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Most in-demand sectors<\/strong> <strong>and jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having said that, there are numerous job sectors that are showing budding appetite for recruitment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From August to September 2024, there was a significant uptake in hiring activity for <strong>Architecture &amp; Engineering<\/strong>  professionals (+52%). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year-on-year, hiring activity in this sector also increased by 28%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at the second most in-demand sector is that of <strong>Medical &amp; Health<\/strong> where hiring activity for these professionals has been slowly increasing over the last three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September, recruitment activity for professionals in this sector surged by 54% month-on-month, with a 26% increase year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then is that of the <strong>Manufacturing &amp; Assembly<\/strong> sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From August to September 2024, demand for Manufacturing &amp; Assembly staff rose significantly by 66%, with a 25% increase in hiring activity year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at trending jobs that are showing increased demand for workers and professions, Pnet said that this is seen in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Civil\/ Structural Engineering;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Infrastructure\/ Operations Consulting;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal Assistant;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nursing\/ Professional Caregiving; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Logistics Management. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Regional job trends<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every month, Pnet takes a close look at the job market trends of three specific regions, with the October 2024 edition looking at international, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking <strong>international<\/strong>, the top in-demand professionals are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Business &amp; Management;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finance;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IT; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sales<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;International recruitment for Business &amp; Management professionals has increased significantly,&#8221; said Pnet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year-on-year, there has been +28% growth in international recruitment for Business &amp; Management staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from international hiring for Business &amp; Management staff, international recruitment for Finance professionals has also increased significantly over the last year (+38%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at <strong>Mpumalanga<\/strong>, the top in-demand professionals are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sales;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business &amp; Management; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manufacturing &amp; Assembly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Mpumalanga is seeing a growing demand for Sales professionals, with an uptake in hiring activity for sales roles of +33% over the last 3 months (July, August, September 2024) compared to the previous 3 months (April, May, June 2024),&#8221; said Pnet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year-on-year, demand for Sales professionals grew by +3% in Mpumalanga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>KwaZulu-Natal<\/strong>, the most in-demand professionals are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Business &amp; Management;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finance;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Admin, Office &amp; Support; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sales.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>KwaZulu-Natal &#8220;has seen a +15% increase in hiring activity for Business &amp; Management professionals over the last 3 months (July, August, September 2024) compared to the previous 3 months (April, May, June 2024),&#8221; said Pnet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year-on-year, there has been a 25% increase in recruitment for Business &amp;
