Further marches are planned for November 22 and 29, as well as December 6. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesslive.co.za\/bd\/national\/2024-11-15-sacca-plans-march-on-saa-to-get-recognition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BusinessDay<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Prasa \u2018negligence\u2019:<\/strong>\u00a0A high court report found that negligence in the rail agency\u2019s integrated security project resulted in widespread theft and vandalism, noting that Prasa \u2018negligence\u2019 has led to damage of R5.1 billion. [<a href=\"https:\/\/mg.co.za\/news\/2024-11-15-prasa-negligence-damages-r5-1-billion-in-infrastructure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mail&amp;Guardian<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><strong>Government must pay up<\/strong>: Cooperative Governance Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa has lamented government departments that haven&#8217;t paid their bills.<\/span> Government departments, national and provincial, now owe municipalities more than R29 billion in unpaid bills. Hlabisa said he&#8217;s written to all departments who owe water boards to settle their debts by the end of December, failing which treasury will be asked to redirect money from their allocations to the owed municipalities. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewn.co.za\/2024\/11\/15\/cogta-minister-wants-municipalities-to-cough-up-for-swelling-water-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EWN<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Border shut down again<\/strong>: Protesters again blocked Mozambique\u2019s main border crossing with South Africa on Thursday after operations had resumed earlier in the day. Demonstrators on the Mozambican side, angered by the result of the country\u2019s election last month, blocked the route, with vehicles in the late afternoon still unable to enter, according to the highway operator. The border that connects South Africa\u2019s industrial heartland with the Maputo port \u2014 Mozambique\u2019s biggest \u2014 had earlier restarted processing cargo. [<a href=\"https:\/\/mercury.bloomberg.com\/news\/SMXF9DT0G1KW00\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Markets:<\/strong> The rand has traded turbulently, having lost almost 5% against the greenback, since the U.S. election last week, with investors expecting Trump&#8217;s policies to bring higher short-term economic growth and also potentially inflationary pressures. On Friday (15 November), the rand was trading at R18.26 to the dollar, R23.16 to the pound, and R19.25 to the euro. Oil is trading at $71.94 a barrel.
