Around 315,000 tablets have been sold in South Africa according to the MD of research firm World Wide Worx, Arthur Goldstuck, with iPads contributing about 60% of the total sales.<\/p>\n
South Africa received the first generation iPad in January 2011, long after its international debut and just three months before the iPad 2 launched locally.<\/p>\n
Despite giving vendors such as Samsung a head start in the SA tablet PC space, World Wide Worx\u2019s findings reveal that Apple has taken a solid lead over the competition.<\/p>\n
Asked about the potential margin for error in their findings, Goldstuck said the he has tested the statistic against major players and that it is within 10% of the actual figure.<\/p>\n
Goldstuck explained that they determined the number from their monitoring and constant querying of key tablet suppliers and segments.<\/p>\n
These segments include distributors, retailers, networks, and other tablet sellers such as First National Bank (FNB).<\/p>\n
FNB CEO, Michael Jordaan recently revealed in a Twitter post that they sold over 50,000 smart devices in the 20 weeks following the bank\u2019s launch of its tablet and smartphone specials for certain account holders.<\/p>\n
