Credit: People\u2019s Daily Online SA<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Longyuan South Africa Renewables is playing a key role in South Africa\u2019s green energy revolution through its two local wind power projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sawea.org.za\/membership-directory\/corporate\/1845111?utm_source=BusinessTech&amp;utm_medium=Article&amp;utm_term=December+2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Click here to learn more about Longyuan South Africa Renewables.<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>According to David Dai, Business Development Manager for Longyuan South Africa Renewables, their wind power plants have produced an incredible 5,400 GWh of clean energy since they went into operation in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dai was speaking at a Longyuan South Africa Renewables event in Cape Town, where the company released a report on the work it is doing in South Africa\u2019s renewable energy sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We unpack the positive impact of the wind power projects in more detail, below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impressive power generation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Longyuan South Africa Renewables is a subsidiary of the China Longyuan Power Group Corporation &#8211; the world\u2019s largest wind power operator and an affiliate of the Fortune Global 500 company China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This gives Longyuan South Africa Renewables the backing it needs to excel in South Africa, where it has established the country\u2019s two largest wind power projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These projects are located in De Aar, Northern Cape, and have a combined generation capacity of 244.5 MW.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They comprise the De Aar 1 Maanhaarberg Wind Farm Facility (DA1) and the De Aar 2 North Wind Farm Facility (DA2) \u2013 totalling 163 wind turbines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction on these wind farms began in 2015, and they entered operation two years later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince then, they have generated an impressive 5.4 billion kWh (5,400 GWh) of clean electricity, which is about 770 million kWh per year (770 GWh),\u201d said Dai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is equivalent to saving 215,800 tons of coal per year \u2013 an incredible milestone in South Africa\u2019s path to sustainable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Longyuan-in-article-image-1-businesstech.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"983\" height=\"553\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Longyuan-in-article-image-1-businesstech.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-802925\" style=\"width:1200px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Longyuan-in-article-image-1-businesstech.jpg 983w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Longyuan-in-article-image-1-businesstech-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Longyuan-in-article-image-1-businesstech-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 983px) 100vw, 983px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><em>Representatives from Nelson Mandela University and Longyuan South Africa Renewables.
