{"id":803996,"date":"2024-12-12T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-12T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=803996"},"modified":"2024-12-12T08:41:02","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T06:41:02","slug":"massive-redevelopment-hitting-one-of-the-cape-towns-most-popular-malls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/property\/803996\/massive-redevelopment-hitting-one-of-the-cape-towns-most-popular-malls\/","title":{"rendered":"Massive redevelopment hitting one of the Cape Town&#8217;s most popular malls"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Somerset Mall will undergo a massive expansion project, with the first phase set to be completed by November 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The roughly 70,000 sqm Somerset\u00a0Mall is the dominant shopping destination in the Helderberg region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first phase of the redevelopment will add 5,500 square metres of retail space, enhancing the shopping experience for visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSomerset\u00a0Mall\u2019s expansion is about more than just adding space; it\u2019s about creating a place that brings people together,&#8221; said Mandy Bellamy, General Manager of\u00a0Somerset\u00a0Mall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This redevelopment will elevate the shopping experience with timeless design and enhanced amenities, making the\u00a0mall\u00a0a true hub for connection and community.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expansion is anticipated to bolster the mall&#8217;s position as the leading retail and leisure hub in Somerset West. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mall is located at the busy intersection of the N2 and R44 highways, with the centre already attracts a diverse audience, from residents to international travellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis redevelopment is designed to capitalise on\u00a0Somerset\u00a0West\u2019s rapid growth,\u201d said Wayne Abegglen, Hyprop Portfolio Executive for the Western Cape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re introducing over 50 new stores, with a focus on athleisure and affordable luxury brands, family entertainment, and a wider variety of food and dining options. Additionally, we aim to enhance customer amenities to set a new standard for retail excellence in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key Objectives of the Redevelopment include the following: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Expanding Retail Options:\u00a0<\/strong>The redevelopment will address unmet demand by introducing a broader range of offerings to meet evolving shopper preferences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Elevating the Shopper Experience:\u00a0<\/strong>The\u00a0mall\u2019s transformation includes retiling the entire centre with timeless, modern designs and upgrading bathrooms to feature contemporary, high-quality facilities. These enhancements will create a refreshed and sophisticated environment that elevates comfort and convenience for visitors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond retail, the redevelopment will also introduce family-focused entertainment spaces, luxurious restroom renovations, and improved dining options. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other unique features include electric vehicle charging stations, a golf cart shopper shuttle, and a vibrant art mile featuring renowned sculptor Marco Olivier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs we embark on this significant transformation, we\u2019re proud to contribute to the Helderberg region\u2019s economic growth and job creation,\u201d Bellamy added.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Somerset\u00a0Mall\u00a0is more than a shopping destination \u2014 it\u2019s a cornerstone of our community, and this expansion reflects our commitment to enhancing its role in the lives of our visitors.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Somerset\u00a0Mall\u00a0attracts roughly 9.5 million visitors annually and the redevelopment is set to further boost foot traffic, tenant revenue, and regional investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re investing in\u00a0Somerset\u00a0West\u2019s future,\u201d Abegglen said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis project will provide a platform for local entrepreneurship, attract high-quality tenants, and create lasting value for the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the first phase expected for completion in 2025, prospective tenants have also been invited to join the mall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current images of the mall and renderings of the redevelopment can be
