Roedean School\u2019s 2024 matric class achieved a 100% Bachelor\u2019s Degree Pass rate, and more than half the students scored above 80%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was the second-highest result achieved in the school’s history, with 292 distinctions from 66 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Roedean School\u2019s matriculants achieved an average of 4.4 distinctions per candidate, and the cohort’s overall average was 79.4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Roedean School for Girls is a private English medium and boarding school for girls situated in Parktown in the city of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Roedean School was founded in 1903 as a sister school to the esteemed Roedean in Brighton, England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Theresa Lawrence and Katherine Margaret Earle set sail for South Africa at the turn of the last century and began their school with 22 pupils in a small house in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time, they were young women in their early thirties. They were educated at the University of Cambridge and acted as joint heads of school from 1903 to 1930.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sir Herbert Baker, a prominent architect responsible for many of Johannesburg’s most historic houses and monuments, designed the original school buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, Roedean is one of the most prestigious schools in South Africa and is known for producing excellent academic results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the latest matric exams, students achieved a combined average of 79.4% and 4.42 distinctions per student. 18 results ranked in the top 1% in various subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The school had three candidates on the IEB Outstanding Achievements List: Kajal Jogi, Mia Loizides, and Neo Leseilane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They were ranked in the top 5% of IEB learners in six or more subjects and achieved a rating level of 7 in Life Orientation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ammarah Ismail was ranked in the top 5% of IEB learners in five or more subjects and achieved a rating level of 7 in Life Orientation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two students received nine distinctions, eight students received eight distinctions, and ten students received seven distinctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were a further four students who received six distinctions and ten students who received five distinctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Annabel Roberts, head of Roedean\u2019s senior school, says they have seen the greatest improvements in students\u2019 marks from the end of grade 11 to grade 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She attributes the success to their holistic educational approach. Interestingly, they reduced academic time, allowing students to pursue sporting and cultural activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
