A Numsa spokesperson said the strike comes after the parties \u201ccouldn\u2019t find each other\u201d during a section 189 process, which started soon after notice was served to the union in September.&nbsp;[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesslive.co.za\/bd\/national\/labour\/2025-01-15-numsa-embarks-on-indefinite-strike-at-bidvest-container-depot\/\">Business Day<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scholar transport threats:<\/strong> The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has issued a warning to taxi owners after some were allegedly intimidating private scholar transport contractors and demanding money from them. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymaverick.co.za\/article\/2025-01-16-as-the-school-run-begins-eastern-cape-scholar-transport-marred-by-taxi-owners-intimidating-private-operators\/?dm_source=dm_block_list&amp;dm_medium=card_link&amp;dm_campaign=main\">Daily Maverick<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vodacom Maziv acquisition:<\/strong> Vodacom has shared more details on its plan to buy a 30% stake in Maziv Proprietary Limited. Maziv will own all the fibre assets of Community Investment Ventures Holdings, including Vumatel and Dark Fibre Africa. The original deadline for this deal was extended to 15 January 2025 and has now been further extended to 31 January 2025. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vodacom.com\/share-price-and-sens.php\">SENS<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><strong>Stilfontein mine operations continue:<\/strong>\u00a0Operations at a Stilfontein mine shaft will enter its fourth day despite initial reports that there are &#8220;no longer any illegal miners underground&#8221;.<\/span> More than 240 allegedly illegal miners have been arrested thus far, and at least 77 bodies have been retrieved. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com\/news24\/southafrica\/news\/operations-to-continue-at-stilfontein-mine-despite-reports-no-zama-zamas-are-left-underground-20250116\">News24<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Markets:<\/strong> South African assets gained on Wednesday after a key U.S. inflation report showed consumer prices\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/us\/us-consumer-prices-rise-slightly-above-expectations-december-2025-01-15\/\">rose<\/a>\u00a0slightly more than expected last month in the world&#8217;s biggest economy.\u00a0On Thursday (16 January), the rand was trading at R18.75 to the dollar, R23.04 to the pound, and R19.45 to the euro. Oil is trading at $82.09 a barrel.
