{"id":807696,"date":"2025-01-21T13:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-21T11:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=807696"},"modified":"2025-01-21T13:24:10","modified_gmt":"2025-01-21T11:24:10","slug":"the-top-private-school-in-south-africa-with-4-5-distinctions-per-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/807696\/the-top-private-school-in-south-africa-with-4-5-distinctions-per-student\/","title":{"rendered":"The top private school in South Africa with 4.5 distinctions per student"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>SAHETI School in Senderwood, Bedfordview, achieved a 100% pass rate and 4.5 distinctions per matriculant, making it the top private school in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAHETI School was established in 1974 by a group of founders under the leadership of advocate George Bizos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bizos was a Greek-South African human rights lawyer who campaigned against apartheid and represented Nelson Mandela during the Rivonia Trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school\u2019s history dates back to the sixties when the SAHETI Institute bought a 72-acre farm in Senderwood, located in an affluent area close to the Johannesburg CBD, for \u00a340,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the following years, numerous attempts were made to raise funds to start building the SAHETI school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it was not until 1969, when Advocate George Bizos became chairman, that things really started to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bizos, with the help of P Stathoulis and P Valasis, raised enough funds to appoint architects to help design the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction of the SAHETI school started in August 1971 with a unique design for the 12 classrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1973, the SAHETI Institute appointed Morgan Ellis as the school\u2019s first principal, a decision that was key to the institution&#8217;s early growth and success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ellis understood and embraced the Hellenic culture and ethos and was influential in shaping the school as it is today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHis unique approach and passion were key to successfully growing the school from its inception in 1973 until his retirement in 1991,\u201d SAHETI said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school opened its doors on 16 January 1974 with 114 students &#8211; 60 in the nursery school and 54 in Grades 1 to 3. Annual fees ranged from R60 to R84 per term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the challenging initial years, SAHETI showed strong growth and earned the reputation of a top academic school in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, SAHETI School ranks amongst the top independent schools in South Africa, with 1,300 boys and girls attending the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SAHETI-School.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SAHETI-School-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-807701\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SAHETI-School-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SAHETI-School-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SAHETI-School-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SAHETI-School.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SAHETI School\u2019s 2024 matric results<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, SAHETI School was the top-performing private school in South Africa with exceptional IEB Matric Examinations results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has continued its 100% matric pass rate legacy, achieving 286 distinctions, equating to 4.5 per candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Equally impressive is that every child in the 2024 SAHETI School Matric Class achieved at least one distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>25 of the 286 distinctions were A+, with five subjects achieving 100%.&nbsp;
