strategies, enabling businesses to focus on relevant occupations when developing their talent attraction and retention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data looked at the hiring activity in Q4 2024 compared to Q3 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report said that hiring activity increased notably for Design, Media &amp; Arts professionals, which saw growth of 22% over the quarter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following Design, Media &amp; Arts jobs saw an increase in demand: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Journalism \/ Writing \/ Editing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interior Design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other Design, Media &amp; Arts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking elsewhere, Warehousing &amp; Logistics increased by 9%, with jobs Route Management &amp; Control seeing increased demand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the increase in some jobs, hiring activity in other sectors took a dip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hiring activity decreased for  Finance professionals (-7%), for Sales professionals (-12%), and for IT professionals (-5%): <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Information Technology -5%<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Systems \/ Network Administration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Software Development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Data Analysis \/ Data Warehousing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business Analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Finance -7%<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Purchasing &amp; Procurement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cost &amp; Management Accounting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial \/ Project Accounting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accounts Payable \/ Receivable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Credit Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bookkeeping<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sales -12%<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Representative \/ Sales Consulting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Retail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Account Management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to their need for maths skills and higher levels of education, Finance and IT jobs are often seen as being in high demand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CareerJunction&#8217;s report also showed the vacancy levels for jobs across South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although  Q4 2024 reflected similar recruitment activity levels to that seen in Q3 2024, year-on-year the number of vacancies dropped by 2.7%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CareerJunction said that hiring activity has declined by 2.9%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It added that slow hiring activity has been evident for most of 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data showed activity for Admin, Office and Support roles was slightly higher (+2%) than it was for the same roles a year ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between Q3:2024 to Q4:2024 employment activity increased by +5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruitment activity for Business &amp; Management professionals increased slightly year-on-year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between Q3:2024 to Q4:2024 employment activity increased by +4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the quarter-on-quarter decrease of 7%, hiring activity for Finance roles also decreased by declined by -7%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decline in hiring activity for IT professionals also continued year-on-year, seeing a massive 19% decrease in hiring activity over the period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to their need for maths skills and higher levels of education, Finance and IT jobs are often seen as being in high demand, providing access to higher-paying jobs in the country compared to more arts-focused careers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, despite the decrease, CareerJunction noted that demand for IT professionals remains very high in the recruitment market. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-66.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"559\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-66-559x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-809479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-66-559x1024.png 559w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-66-164x300.png 164w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-66-768x1407.png 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-66.png 812w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 559px) 100vw, 559px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: CareerJunction<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What other firms are saying<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CareerJunction&#8217;s report follows similar findings from Pnet&#8217;s latest Job Market Trends Report for December. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pnet said that slowing activity continued in November, with month-on-month local hiring activity down by 10% from October to November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Year-on-year, hiring activity also dropped by -10%, compared to November 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trend for the two-year comparison also revealed that recruitment activity decreased by 10% compared to November 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pnet\u2019s analysis also looked at some of the most in-demand jobs in the whole country, which included the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Secretary \u2013 Admin, Office &amp; Support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Graphic \/ Print \/ Packaging Design \u2013 Design, Media &amp; Arts<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Team Leader &amp; Supervisor \u2013 Business &amp; Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>IT Project Administration \/ Management \u2013 Information Technology<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mechanical Engineering \u2013 Architecture &amp; Engineering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Pnet&#8217;s analysis thus shows some similar findings with CareerJunction, with both noting that jobs in the Design, Media &amp; Arts and IT sectors are in high demand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pnet also noted that sector-specific activity trends can give valuable insights into the local job market and South African economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said stable and increasing recruitment indicates confidence in the local economy and business growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pnet said that the below sectors saw large increases in hiring activity: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Medical &amp; Health<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hiring activity for Medical &amp; Health professionals has increased since Q1:2024.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Month-on-month, recruitment activity for professionals in this sector increased by 16%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Year-on-year, hiring activity in this sector has increased by 18%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Architecture &amp;
