Residents from Constantia in Cape Town launched a request for proposals<\/a><\/strong> on 27 February 2015 as part of a drive to get fibre-to-the-home in their neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

According to the residents group it is planning to engage with a number of fibre service providers and identify the most favourable proposal.<\/p>\n

The group said it supports an open-access fibre model, and believes that there is room for multiple service providers.<\/p>\n

The successful service provider will be appointed at the end of March, and fibre-to-the-home sign-ups will also start then.<\/p>\n

Bishopscourt, situated next to Constantia, already runs a fibre to the home program, linked to Telkom’s initial FTTH rollout plans announced in 2014.<\/p>\n

Telkom announced in September 2014 that it would roll out FTTH to 20 suburbs before the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Bishopscourt,\u00a0Plattekloof,\u00a0Waterfront,\u00a0De Waterkant,\u00a0Signal Hill,\u00a0Clifton,\u00a0Bakoven and\u00a0Camps Bay were announced as part of the rollout.<\/p>\n

What Constantia residents said<\/h3>\n

Constantia residents were asked<\/a><\/strong> to share their views regarding their broadband needs, and the results were telling.<\/p>\n

98% of Constantia residents, where the majority have broadband speeds of 4Mbps or less, said they would like a fast fibre broadband connection at home.<\/p>\n
