The Department of Energy announced that the petrol price will increase by 96 cents per litre on Wednesday (4 March).<\/p>\n
Diesel will increase by 74 cents per litre, while paraffin will increase by 98 cents per litre, the department announced late on Friday.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, presenting his first main budget as finance minister in the National Assembly, Nhlanhla Nene announced the general fuel levy would increase by 30.5c\/litre and the Road Accident Fund levy by 50c\/litre, effective from April 1.<\/p>\n
South Africa had previously experienced seven straight months of fuel cuts.<\/p>\n
In the first week of February, the price of all grades of petrol dropped by 93 cents a litre, while in January the price of 93 and 95 octane petrol decreased by R1.27 and R1.23 a litre.<\/p>\n
The petrol price in\u00a0Gauteng hit at a record worst level of R14.39 for a litre of 95 Octane petrol in April 2014, dropping to its current price of R10.31, in February.<\/p>\n
