{"id":814469,"date":"2025-02-27T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-27T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=814469"},"modified":"2025-02-27T10:59:00","modified_gmt":"2025-02-27T08:59:00","slug":"big-shake-up-for-ebucks-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/814469\/big-shake-up-for-ebucks-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Big shake-up for eBucks in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The partnership between South Africa&#8217;s biggest retailer, Shoprite, and FNB&#8217;s eBucks will be terminated at the end of March 2025, and the retailer&#8217;s benefits will move to Standard Bank&#8217;s UCount programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FNB, meanwhile, has onboarded Pick n Pay to eBucks and is expanding its offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shoprite and Standard Bank announced the new partnership, which will take effect from 1 April 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the new partnership, qualifying Standard Bank UCount Rewards members will receive the following benefits on every product, every day:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Up to 30% back in UCount Rewards Points in-store across Checkers and Shoprite;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Up to 40% back in UCount Rewards Points on Sixty60.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These rewards can be redeemed in-store or online, and will work in tandem with the Discovery Vitality HealthyFood benefit in September 2024 as well as Shoprite&#8217;s own Xtra Savings rewards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vitality members can earn up to 75% back in Discovery Miles on more than 2,500 products at Checkers, Checkers Hyper and on Sixty60.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, shoppers can get almost 30% instant cash discounts with the Xtra Savings card. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Shoprite and Checkers customers saved a combined R16.9 billion on their grocery bills in the last financial year alone, and Xtra Savings has been the number one supermarket rewards programme in South Africa since 2019,&#8221; Shoprite said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard Bank said its new deal with Shoprite will boost both their businesses, with the bank looking to boost its transaction volumes at Shoprite Group stores and boost the bank\u2019s share of grocery spend \u2013 a category where consumers spend most frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also comes as households in South Africa remain under pressure, with food prices still climbing despite slowing inflation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice and Dignity Household Affordability Index shows the average Household Food Basket rose by 2% year-on-year this January, costing R1,032 more than three years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith rising costs of utilities, fuel, and other essentials, households are feeling the strain. Initiatives like this are crucial in easing financial stress,\u201d the bank said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FNB turns to Pick n Pay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FNB terminated its eBucks partnership with Checkers effective 31 March 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FNB eBucks partnership with Shoppers allowed account holders to earn vouchers and cashback, depending on account type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In lieu of the Shoprite partnership, FNB has a new partnership with Pick n Pay, which joined the eBucks rewards programme in October 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FNB eBucks customers can earn up to 30% of their spending back through the partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 1 April 2025, all customers will automatically earn rewards on their Pick n Pay spend which comes at an increased earn rate and also includes online spend as well as clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All FNB customers can take advantage of the following eBucks rewards at Pick n Pay:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>FNB Easy customers:<\/strong> Swipe your FNB Easy debit card to get a voucher that allows you to pay 99c for a 600g loaf of Pick n Pay white or brown bread. Customers get 4 vouchers a month.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FNB Aspire customers:<\/strong> Earn up to R150 per month back in eBucks when shopping in-store, using Pick n Pay asap! or buying from Pick n Pay Clothing respectively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FNB Premier customers:\u00a0<\/strong>Earn up to 30% back in eBucks on Pick n Pay asap! 20% back in on in-store spend, and up to 20% back at Pick n Pay Clothing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>FNB Private Clients, Private Wealth and RMB Private Bank Customers: <\/strong>Earn up to 30% back in eBucks on Pick n Pay asap! 20% back on in-store spend and at Pick n Pay clothing.
