The South African rand weakened on Thursday following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that his proposed tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods will take effect next week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rand was trading<\/a> at 18.4775 against the U.S. dollar, which represents a decrease of about 0.2% compared to its previous close. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Additionally, the dollar was approximately 0.6% stronger against a basket of other currencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Friday (28 February), the rand strengthened slightly, trading at R18.50 to the dollar, R23.27 to the pound and R19.21 to the euro.
