The power grid will be severely constrained for the rest of the week, parastatal Eskom said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
“It is possible that we may go through today [Tuesday] without implementing any load shedding,” spokesman Khulu Phasiwe said.<\/p>\n
“If any of our generating units break down we might be forced to implement [load shedding].”<\/p>\n
Phasiwe urged Eskom consumers to use less electricity.<\/p>\n
“We are doing everything to bring back the generators that are out on maintenance services,” he said.<\/p>\n

Eskom announced on Monday that unit six of its newly-built Medupi power station in Limpopo had produced power for the first time.<\/p>\n
This was the first of the power station’s six units to be synchronised.<\/p>\n
