{"id":8183,"date":"2012-03-22T16:51:37","date_gmt":"2012-03-22T14:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=8183"},"modified":"2012-03-22T16:57:02","modified_gmt":"2012-03-22T14:57:02","slug":"tv-stb-rollout-plan-approved-by-cabinet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/8183\/tv-stb-rollout-plan-approved-by-cabinet\/","title":{"rendered":"TV STB rollout plan approved by Cabinet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cabinet has approved the Ownership Support Rollout Framework for television set-top-boxes (STBs) to poor households, government spokesman Jimmy Manyi announced on Thursday (22 March 2012).<\/p>\n<p>Briefing the media following Cabinet&#8217;s fortnightly meeting on Tuesday, he said the executive had further approved full subsidisation of television-owning households in those areas of the Northern Cape affected by the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cabinet approved the&#8230; framework for&#8230; STBs to poor households that own television sets, and the full subsidisation of outdoor and indoor antennae and the installation costs associated with rolling out digital signals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It further approved the full subsidisation of television-owning households in the SKA project area,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for so-called digital migration is June 2015.
