{"id":82073,"date":"2015-03-09T11:53:06","date_gmt":"2015-03-09T09:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=82073"},"modified":"2015-03-09T12:07:06","modified_gmt":"2015-03-09T10:07:06","slug":"rich-durban-suburbs-to-get-1gbs-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/broadband\/82073\/rich-durban-suburbs-to-get-1gbs-internet\/","title":{"rendered":"Rich Durban suburbs to get 1Gbps internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new fibre-to-the-home operator called <a title=\"123Net\" href=\"https:\/\/123net.co.za\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>123 Internetworks (123NET)<\/strong><\/a> is getting ready to roll out services to homes and businesses in KwaZulu-Natal.<\/p>\n<p>123Net CEO Kalin Bogatzevski said the first areas they plan to cover are Umhlanga and La Lucia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe aim is to provide ultra-fast Internet services to the residents, connecting them at 1Gbps to the 123NET fibre network,\u201d said Bogatzevski.<\/p>\n<p>He said they are building an open-access network, where other ISPs can offer services using the 123NET fibre network.<\/p>\n<p>Bogatzevski added they plan to offer a basic 5Mbps broadband connection free of charge to homes and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working closely with the eThekwini municipality and we have already started obtaining the needed wayleaves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the needed equipment has already arrived, including the servers, routers, and network components.
