This increase followed a positive outlook from Eskom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eskom expressed optimism about the power situation for the upcoming winter, stating it aims to avoid any electricity cuts over the next four months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Africa, the continent&#8217;s most industrialised nation, has faced recurring power outages for over a decade, which have hindered economic growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, the rand was trading at R18.29 to the dollar, roughly 0.7% stronger than its closing value on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citigroup has predicted that the rand will continue to strengthen against the U.S. dollar, suggesting that the real-rate premium in South Africa\u2019s economy, along with stronger commodity exports, will counterbalance domestic political uncertainties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday, 6 May, the rand was trading at R18.26 to the dollar, R24.29 to the pound and R20.67 to the euro. They argue that systems are already in place to facilitate this transition. This call comes in response to the recent breakdown and growing backlog in licence renewals. The Treasury cited drops in anticipated revenue and rising debt service costs as reasons against further enhancement of social grants.
