Amazon South Africa has announced a significant expansion of its product offering, with the company now offering groceries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazon’s new Everyday Essentials category includes Groceries, Pet Food, and Vitamins and Supplements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it should be noted that the selection only brings thousands of new non-perishable food items, pet food products, and health supplements, not fresh produce<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazon said that the new multi-category introduction marks a significant milestone in its growth in South Africa, as it addresses some of the most requested types of products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazon introduced grocery, pet, and vitamins and supplements to its store in May, and has now launched a dedicated storefront for Grocery and Everyday Essentials categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new selection includes local brands like Beacon, Simba, and Koo, alongside international favourites like Nestle, Red Bull and Starbucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe’re thrilled to bring these extensive new categories to our South African customers,\u201d said Robert Koen, Amazon Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This expansion represents our commitment to becoming a one-stop shopping destination that meets the everyday needs of South African families while offering the convenience, competitive pricing, and reliable delivery that customers expect from Amazon.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early data showed strong customer interest in all three main categories, with coffee, tea, cereals, pasta, cooking oils, and canned goods seen as top sellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pet food selection has seen a particular demand for premium pet nutrition brands and speciality formulations, while the vitamins and supplements category has attracted health-conscious consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’ve focused on bringing together a compelling mix of everyday essentials, trusted brands, and unique speciality products that aren’t always easily accessible in all parts of the country,” said Philile Mabolloane, Retail Head for Consumables at Amazon South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The initial customer response has been extremely positive, particularly for our bulk buying options and multipack savings across all three categories.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expanded selection is available via the Amazon mobile app and www.amazon.co.za. Customers can opt for same-day and next-day delivery on items shipped, or choose from the 4,300 pickup points in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the broader Amazon Group already operated in South Africa via Amazon Web Services, the company only officially launched its popular online marketplace in May 2024, making it a newer entrant into a competitive local market.<\/p>\n\n\n
