Gauteng water board Rand Water will be starting the second phase of its critical maintenance project in the province, which will cause disruptions to supply over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The maintenance project’s next phase will start on Monday, 30 June, and will continue through to Friday, 18 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maintenance activity will take place at different times and locations across various municipalities, but the entire province will be impacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Rand Water, the objective of the project is to increase capacity and improve plant availability, reliability and efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The June\/July maintenance is particularly important as it comes ahead of the anticipated high-demand season from mid-August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first phase of the project commenced on 29 May and saw the successful connection of a newly constructed pipeline in the province, a new water supply station, and a cleanup of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the next phase, pumping activity will be reduced on key systems, including Eikenhof, Zwartkopjes and Palmiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Consequently, areas within the cities of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane may experience low water pressure or intermittent supply,” Rand Water said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other municipalities will likely be impacted as well, including Rand West, Mogale City, Merafon, Madibeng, Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Rustenburg, Royal Bafokeng and nearby mines and industries (‘Other areas’).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tables below outline the schedules for the affected systems and municipalities. Rand Water said that any meters that are supplied by these systems will be impacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The affected municipalities will advise customers on the expected extent and impact of any water supply disruption in their respective areas,” it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Customers are encouraged to follow details from their respective metros and local municipalities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of publication, only the City of Ekurhuleni had provided area-specific details on regions that would be affected by the outages. The article will be updated as more information becomes available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
