President Jacob Zuma owes South Africans R52.9 million for non-security upgrades at his private Nkandla homestead in KwaZulu-Natal, DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane said on Friday.<\/p>\n
“Based on her [Public Protector Thuli Madonsela] report ‘Secure in Comfort’, the DA has calculated that the president is liable for at least an amount of R52.9 million for the non-security upgrades to his private residence,” he told reporters in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
The Democratic Alliance believed this was Zuma’s personal liability which he unduly benefited from.<\/p>\n
Maimane said this amount was the reasonable amount for Zuma to pay back.<\/p>\n
About a year ago, Madonsela’s report on the matter stated Zuma had unduly benefited from the non-security upgrades at his private Nkandla residence which amounted to R246m.<\/p>\n
She recommended that Zuma pay back “a reasonable percentage of the cost”.<\/p>\n
