{"id":832364,"date":"2025-07-21T18:36:40","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T16:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=832364"},"modified":"2025-07-21T19:22:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T17:22:09","slug":"president-cyril-ramaphosa-fires-higher-education-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/832364\/president-cyril-ramaphosa-fires-higher-education-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"President Cyril Ramaphosa fires Higher Education Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa has removed Minister of Higher Education Nobuhle Nkabane from her post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president&#8217;s office communicated the decision, which ends Nkabane&#8217;s brief and controversial tenure in the portfolio.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement came just a day before she was due to appear before Parliament\u2019s higher education committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was going to sit before the committee to account for her role in the appointment of Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA) board members, an issue that has drawn significant political scrutiny in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nkabane\u2019s dismissal follows growing criticism over the SETA board appointment process, which saw several individuals with political ties being appointed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She had missed two previous committee meetings, prompting frustration from MPs.
